Today is my birthday!!!

Maybe this will change as I get "old", but for now, I kind of enjoy my birthday. It is one day of the year where I almost always have a good day. I guess that "good" is more of an attitude, because bad things can happen any day. I remember one birthday stuck in a car with a migraine driving for 13 hours. Not really an ideal situation, but I suppose that on my birthday I am able to keep a better attitude. I enjoy my birthday for a number of reasons.

For one thing, I think a birthday is a day to really appreciate the gift of life. I know that some people get depressed about getting older and hate having birthdays, but growing older is a part of life. I am so excited that I am alive and well and able to do the things that I do. Some days get me down, like anyone else, but life really is a gift and I want to make the most of it. Carpe Diem.

Another fun thing about my birthday is that I have always shared it with someone! This is probably not the most normal way to have a birthday, but I didn't really have much choice. See, I was born on my Dad's birthday! What a gift he got! Growing up, it was always fun to have our special day together. We each had our own birthday cakes, his German Chocolate, mine something else (usually some strawberry-ish creation; Thanks, Mom, for years of creativity), but it was our day.
As if it wasn't enough to share a birthday with my dad, TWO of my best friends also share my birthday! How crazy is that? Ben and Dave! So it seems no matter where I have been, I have shared this day with someone close to me.

A final reason why I like my birthday is because people come out of the woodwork. Especially thanks to Facebook, which reminds all of my friends of my birthday. Since I have attended several different schools and moved around quite a bit, I have friends all over the place! They are literally spread around the world! As much as I love my friends it is difficult to keep in good contact with all of them! But it seems that on my birthday everyone shows up with messages, emails, and calls to wish me the best. I get so much pleasure from hearing from these people who I don't get to talk to that often.

Oh - and I almost forgot my best rule - calories don't count on your birthday!!!!

Happy Birthday Megan, I feel like I am missing everything. I guess that's what happens when you live on the frontier.
