White Water Rafting

Well - I have discovered that I am already getting in trouble for not posting enough on my blog! There is no rest around here! So I am taking this opportunity (during a practice break) to write a little bit about my summer. I guess this is a good time to reflect on the summer since it is also the last day of August and I always associate the start of September as the beginning of fall (regardless of the ACTUAL start of fall... of course, the hot temperatures around here show no signs of fall..hmmm...)
Anyway, I really had a great summer. I was fortunate to be able to travel to several places around the country, including California and Alaska. I was able to visit new places and see new things. Have new adventures, I could say.

One adventure I had this summer was something that I have been around my whole life and it happens practically in my backyard, but I never ever imagined myself doing it. Yes - I went white water rafting on the New River! I was sort of talked into it, and sort of volunteered to go. I was horrified when I learned I had been misled and the Lower New was not the floating family cruise that I thought, but filled with Category 5 rapids!!! And when I was told how the water would suck me under when I fell out of the raft - I didn't know about this after all. BUT - I gathered up my nerves, grabbed a life vest, a paddle, and a helmet and in I went! And you know what... I loved it! I held on for dear life over those rapids and screamed a few times, but I had fun! With all that adrenaline going I even jumped off a rock. Girl gone wild for sure!

Sewing!

Here I am working hard on my sewing machine! I am so glad that I am learning how to sew. What a useful thing!
Update on my purple purse: it has a new owner and has moved to Florida. I think it will be put to good use. Especially the pocket!

Purses!

The purse bug has bitten! My first bag was a success, so I decided to try another one! I had a lot of "support" from Mom on the first one, so I had to try it again on my own. I am happy with them. The red/cream was first. The purple "suede" bag has the addition of an inside pocket and will be great for fall! I am learning a lot about sewing and having a bit of fun while doing it!

The story of my shirt

Today I am wearing my shirt that I got at Ninth Street Espresso the last time I was in New York. I love coffee shops and New York City has a never-ending supply of them. The best thing about this shirt is that it was FREE! When I went in, I complimented the barista on the shirts they were wearing and she asked if I wanted one! They had tried selling shirts, unsuccessfully, and were left with boxes of shirts cluttering their small space. So Ronen and I are now proud advertisers for this wonderful coffee shop. :) Check it out!

Fun Day

Had a good day! Stacy's car needed to be taken to the shop, which happened to be by the mall - so it was a girls shopping day! We ended up looking around a few stores, trying on clothes (some of which were disasters) and all getting our hair cut. It was fun for all three of us to have our hair cut at the same time. We were each in different chairs with different stylists. The store wasn't busy, so we would talk to each other and joke about having a contest to see who would have the best haircut at the end. Amazingly, we were all happy with the way our hair looked after the cuts. 3/3 is great!
I bought a pattern and some material for a bag I am going to make. I am going to try the tie top first. Time to try my hand at sewing - now that I've had my machine for a few months. I have only used it to sew up the sides of a shirt for work so it would fit me. I am excited about getting it started. I hope I stay excited through the whole project!
